Transferring to and from a Monitouch V9 HMI

In this short article we will quickly go over three ways to transfer data to and from a V9 HMI using a PC. As standard, the V9 series supports USB, Serial, and Ethernet transfer on all models. All three of these methods require V-Sft 6 to use.

Connecting the cables:

USB: This is the simplest and most reliable method. All that is required is a USB Mini B cable, V-Sft 6, and the USB driver that is installed by default with V-Sft 6. Power on the HMI and PC, connect the two using the USB cable.

Serial: For serial transfer one will need the V-CP serial cable, a PC with a standard nine pin serial port, and V-Sft 6. Power on the HMI and PC, plug the RJ45 end of the V-CP cable into the MJ1 port on the HMI and the other end of the cable into the serial port for your PC.

Ethernet: For ethernet transfer one may have to configure the IP on the HMI or PC. They must be on the same subnet and the HMI must be pingable from the PC. On the physical layer a simple commercially available ethernet cable can connect the PC to the HMI or connect either into a larger network.

              Transferring Data:

Open V-Sft 6 on your PC, select the Transfer ribbon, and select Download to send data to the HMI or Upload to retrieve data from the HMI.

For USB one goes to the Communication Setting page and selects USB as the comms method. This requires no further configuration.

For Serial go to the Communication Setting page and select Serial, then select the appropriate COM port and Baud rate, default being 57600 kbaud.

For Ethernet go to the Communication Setting page and select Ethernet, then fill in the appropriate IP address of the HMI.

Once the appropriate settings have been made then click the PC -> or PC <- button.
